Sagranus Stone

Church of St Thomas the Apostle

This is the mid 19th Century version of the mediaeval church of St Thomas which was moved on to the abbey site in the 17th Century to replace an earlier church dedicated to St Dogmael/Dogfael who may have founded a Celtic monastery here in the 6th Century. The Welsh name for the village however commemorates the even older and more shadowy Saint Tudoc and dates back to the first century AD when Vikings raided the area.
