Local Suppliers

len and mandy

We careful select our of local suppliers who have demonstrated an ethical approach to food production. Our top quality organic cheeses come from Caws Cenarth, (http://www.cawscenarth.co.uk) a family business who have produced cheese for generations for their own use but decided to produce cheese commercially in order to offset the harsh side effects of the introduction of quotas during the early 1980’s. Now fully organic and producing an excellent award winning range of cheeses, Caws Cenarth has gone from strength to strength. Their cheeses grace the tables of Highgrove, Prince Charles and Camilla’s home in Gloucestershire, and are a staple on the menus in the restaurants at Harrods. We are also delighted to recommend Caw Celtica, famous for unpasteurised Welsh sheep's farmhouse cheese suitable for vegetarians, those with dairy intolerances and allergies.  www.cawsceltica-farmhousecheese.co.uk/

Another local company that has established a world wide reputation for itself is Wendy Brandon’s Preserves (http://www.wendybrandon.co.uk/) based at Boncath in North Pembrokeshire. Wendy herself oversees the production of a vast range of chutneys jams and pickles from the factory located in a picturesque mill in Boncath. These delicious preserves perfectly compliment the quality and simplicity of The Coach House menu.

Another success story is Mary’s Farmhouse ice cream in Crymych. (http://www.marys-farmhouse.co.uk/) John and Mary produce the most delicious dairy ice cream at their production plant in Crymych. They use top quality locally produced milk in their award winning ice cream. This family business is another example of how innovation and a flair for business can turn a good idea into an economic success story for the area.

The crab and lobster that will make regular appearances on the ‘specials board’ will have been freshly caught by Len Walters, our local fisherman. Len catches them and his wife Mandy does the dressing and preparation (see photo above - tel. 01239.621043 for direct supplies). From sea to table in the shortest possible time ensures our customers will really taste the difference.

Wherever possible the bread rolls that come with your soup will be homemade using stone ground flour from Mike and Jane’s Mill, about 50 yards from the Coach House cafe. Even the organic milk in your tea and cappuccino comes from a local supplier, Daioni. Soups, cakes and biscuits are freshly made in our kitchens within the village

We are proud to be able to offer this commitment to the quality of our primary ingredients which also extends to how we source our fruit and vegetables. St Dogmaels has a thriving community of gardeners. Our soups and salads are sourced from the seasonal local produce freshly harvested and selected by ourselves. This enables us to ensure the freshest possible ingredients for our recipes, literally from soil to table in a matter of hours. It makes our menu somewhat unpredictable in terms of what to expect each day, however we feel the benefit of having fresh, home produce far outweighs the disadvantages. Furthermore, we are supporting a burgeoning micro-business culture in conducting our business in this manner.
