St Dogmaels

Welcome

The Coach House is the visitors centre of the historic St Dogmaels Abbey. As well as guides and information on the abbey we have:

  • a cafe for lunches, light snacks and regular bistro evenings with free wireless internet available
  • a gallery showcasing the best local art
  • a museum housing relics from the abbey and telling it's story
  • a giftshop
  • an IT suite and training room
  • a full diary of workshops, events, craft fairs and fun days
  • a regular local producer's market
  • audio guides to the abbey

Photo of an event in the cafeThe Coach House is able to facilitate functions and events on your behalf - including training sessions, parties and wedding events.

As well as the facilities available, The Coach House is home to a number of important locally based projects. We have Glen Johnson, our heritage officer, on staff who is actively engaged in heritage projects and is currently developing a major database of historic records, documents and photographs pertaining to St Dogmaels and the surrounding area. He is also curating exhibitions exploring social history and is actively engaged in supporting other heritage projects within the county - such as Nevern Castle.

Photo of a workshop in the training roomWe also host the Steps to Enterprise project, a follow on to the successful SEER project. Steps to Enterprise is a support service helping to inspire, develop and support social enterprise and the regeneration of the local economy.

Local Caws Cenarth cheese ploughman’s – Perl Wen, Perl Las and Caws Cryf cheeses ~ £6.75

Farmhouse pate – see specials board ~ £ 6.75

All above served with generous side salad, homemade coleslaw, pickled onions and locally made pickle with a fresh baguette.

Salad Platter – Local ‘Kid Me Not’ goat’s cheese dressed with olive oil and lemon, served with a side salad, olives, spicy stuffed peppers, and baguette ~ £6.95

Beyond the Arctic Circle - Tales of Adventure

Friday the 20th of April at 7pm

International Mountain Guide and Arctic Explorer Mark Thomas, of St Dogmaels, will share his stories from climbing the tallest, hardest and most remote big wall in the world to living with the Inuits. Admission: £3 includes a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic drink. Please book in advance.

Illustrated talk about travels in Northern Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Join us as we explore the hill tribe culture, journey down the Mekong river and wander at the fabulous temples of Angkor Wat.

2012 looks like being a great year for St. Dogmaels' heritage as the Coach House moves a step nearer to launching the community archive.

St Dogmaels History Group

St Dogmaels History group "Llandudoch Heddiw a Ddoe" are currently recruiting new (pro active) members to join their organisation.

They are very keen to hear from anyone who is interested in the local history and they would particularly like to hear from the younger members of the community in order to bring new energy to the group.  History is an important part of who we are and it would be nice to know that the history of St Dogmaels can live on in the capable hands of new members who care about their heritage and history.

Aled Harries - Saer Coed / Carpenter

I left school at sixteen and started an apprenticeship to become a carpenter. After completing my apprenticeship I was employed as a carpenter for two years but was laid off last year. I had always wanted to be self-employed but was not in the financial position to set myself up in business. I then heard about the Steps to Enterprise project at The Coach House. I made an appointment to see Angharad and I was given excellent practical advice and also learnt that I might be eligible for financial help.
